About Laura

I'm a Mum to three teenagers. I retrained as a Functional Health Coach after managing my own autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's) into remission, and supporting my son to regrow his hair after experiencing Alopecia Totalis. Before finding the Functional Health approach I wasted lots of time and money with trichologists and dermatologists. I understand how devastating hair loss can be and I've formulated an approach for hair regrowth. I'm a Board Certified Functional Health Coach (A-CFHC and NBC-HWC) living back in the UK after many years overseas. I love working with women who have tried 'everything' to lose weight or balance their hormones. I was coaching for a not-for-profit organisation when I realised that so many women were having similar issues at midlife. Every day women were telling me that they were taking care of all of the people in their lives (apart from themselves). By Friday they'd be exhausted with no energy and relying on prosecco to help them through the weekend. During 2022 I undertook additional training for working with women going through perimenopause and menopause.

What's my Mission?

I help you to feel like yourself again. It might that you want to work on rebuilding your confidence. Or you might like to start with physical health for example weight loss or hair growth. Or your mental health might be the place to begin. The great thing about coaching is that I meet you where you are right now and support you to get where you want to be. This midlife moment when perimenopause makes us stop and re-evaluate where we are is an excellent opportunity to figure out exactly what we're after in life.

What is Coaching?

January 08, 20233 min read

Everyone can benefit from coaching

When you look at my website you might assume that I only work with perimenopausal women. However, until a couple of months ago I was also coaching for a local non-profit. At one point I had over 90 clients and when you're working part-time this is not sustainable. I was aware that I was becoming a candidate for burnout myself which was definitely not part of my plan! I had an incredible experience coaching clients who were referred by their GPs for issues which couldn't be resolved in a 10 minute GP appointment. It gave me the opportunity to work with an incredibly diverse group of people. To date I’ve coached men, women and those who are gender fluid on weight loss, perimenopause (lucky ladies!), finances, poverty, ADHD, hair loss, chronic disease management, alcohol and drug misuse, long Covid, anxiety and homelessness.

From homeless to an apartment in a couple of months

If coaching can support a homeless young man who’s sleeping in his car while continuing to hold down a full-time job, what could it do for you? He moved into his own apartment after a few months, he secured a promotion at work and started a business on the side! Our coaching gave him a non-judgmental space to talk about what he wanted in his life. Together we came up with simple, practical goals for him to work on each week. His confidence in himself grew as he experienced success, and then he became braver and took bigger and bolder actions. Obviously as his coach I want him to succeed, but I can’t take those steps for him. It sounds cheesy but when he lacked confidence or struggled to focus on what to do next our coaching calls created the space which gave him that confidence and direction. They were there all along, but were hidden.

Definition of coaching

This is a comprehensive definition from Wellcoaches: The relationship between a coach and client offers a profound level of support, guidance, and encouragement to making changes, without being judgmental. A coach enables change by focusing on a client’s stated agenda including needs, values, vision, and goals and helping to bring out his/her personal best.

Coaching enables you to take that next step to prioritise yourself. It can be scary because you’re owning up to that responsibility. If your goal is to lose weight all of those excuses that you’ve been telling yourself start to disappear until we unearth the actual reason behind it. Once that’s uncovered we can deal with it together in the non-judgmental coaching space. It may take a few months or just a couple of sessions. That said when you start to make a commitment to yourself it becomes its own reward.

Ready?

It can be difficult to put your hand up and say that you need help. I find that this is especially true for women who are so busy taking care of everybody else in their lives. We're usually not even on our own to-do lists. If you’re ready to discover your own future personal agenda let’s have a no obligation chat. I might not be the right coach for you which is fine because I’ll be able to recommend somebody else from my network who might be a better fit. What do you have to lose?
