AKA Auto-immune thyroiditis
If you’ve found your way here I’m guessing that you’ve either recently received a Hashimoto’s diagnosis or you’ve been ill for a while and are frustrated by the fact that despite taking medication you’re not actually feeling any better. Or, you may have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and, like me your GP hasn’t even mentioned Hashimoto’s… (Hashimoto’s aka Auto-immune thyroiditis is caused by auto-immunity 90% of the time).
I was accidentally diagnosed when I took my son to see a Functional Medicine Doctor! We were discussing family history and when I mentioned that I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism the year before, she mentioned that it was probably Hashimotos disease. My initial response was Hashi-what?
I took a private blood test (because getting an appointment at my GPs required more energy than I could muster at the time) and had the diagnosis confirmed. I implemented various simple lifestyle strategies, and took the same blood test again which showed that I had managed to put the auto-immune disease into remission.
